Day 4 of Touring Wrap-Up

Dear Family and friends, I come to you from the hotel after a VERY exciting day! It was the most physically demanding day, however, it was worth every second.

It began early at 7:00 with breakfast in the hotel. We headed out on the bus at 7:30. Mr. Doerksen gave a great devotion on Patience during our drive. It was great. We made out first stop at our Nation’s Capital building. We took a fun picture out front and proceeded to Congressman Calvert’s office. We viewed his office and got to talk with his head office staff. We continued on for our tour of the Capital. We took an hour tour inside and were blessed to see so many beautiful parts of the building (statues of presidents and other very important people, the rotunda, etc.) Next, we were even more blessed to have secured an actual viewing of the room where the State of the Union is given and where our leaders vote on Bills, etc.

We made our way out and hopped on the Metro Subway system. It was great for all of the kids to get to experience the Metro. We took that to a food court and had a nice lunch. After lunch, we headed to the Smithsonian Museums. We had about 3 hours to spend at the American History Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Air and Space Museum. All I can say is, “Wow!” we got just a taste of what these museums have to offer. The kids were so excited when we were all done. They kept telling everyone what they saw and they were showing pictures. What a fabulous time!

After the museums, we went to dinner at the Sizzling Express Buffet. Yum! Next up, more Memorials!! Yay! We headed out for the Vietnam Memorial, followed by my personal favorite, the Lincoln Memorial!! Wow! Next we headed to the Korean War Memorial and the World War II Memorial! So much to take in, yet, so wonderful!! What another blessed day!

Day 3 of Touring

Blessings everyone! Today was another VERY busy and FUN day! We woke up bright and early at 6:00AM (yes parents, they are actually getting up early on their Spring Break). We went to breakfast at the famous Hard Rock Cafe Washington DC. It was a buffet style breakfast with all the good stuff. After breakfast, the students got some time to souvenir shop before we headed to Ford’s Theatre to learn all about the Lincoln Assassination. We got to sit in the actual seats and see exactly where Lincoln was when he was shot. It was exhilarating!

After Ford’s Theatre, we headed to the White House. We walked all the way around and took a group picture right in front. We stopped and prayed for our Nation’s Leaders. It was so wonderful to have the freedom of religion and be able to go to our God in prayer for our Country! What a blessing!! While walking back to the bus, we noticed the President’s motorcade in front of the White House getting ready to leave. So cool!

After the White House, we headed to Alexandria for lunch. This is the town where the movie, “Remember the Titans” was made about. Next, we headed to Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. We were blessed to get to spend 3 hours touring the site. We got to see the inside of his home, the tomb where he is buried, the museum and so much more. We headed out at 5:30 to eat dinner. Yum!!

After dinner, we headed to see some memorials. Our first stop was to see the new Martin Luther king Jr. Memorial. Wow, it was breathtaking. After some time there, we walked along the Potomac River towards the Roosevelt Memorial. Again, another outstanding place to visit. The waterfalls painted such an amazing picture of Roosevelt’s life. Finally, we ended up at the Jefferson Memorial. Again, it was just amazing. It was just as big as I pictured it would be. Pictures to come!

Thank you to the parents out there who were able to send your children on this experience. They appear to be having an absolute blast! Please continue to pray for our group as we continue on this amazing journey!
